I am a handweaver based in the Mendips, working predominantly with Shetland wool that has been regeneratively reared at Fernhill Farm, less than 10 miles from my loom. I have recently created my ‘Truly Mendip’ collection, featuring a growing range of scarves woven purely in this local wool. They are undyed and celebrate the natural shades of the sheep, with a contemporary aesthetic and unisex appeal. I am currently planning a new line of scarves which will feature locally and naturally dyed Shetland yarn alongside the undyed yarn. Scarves can be woven to specification, where customers are welcome to choose from a selection of pattern and size.

My other ranges include scarves and soft furnishings woven with a combination of local Shetland wool, New Lanark wool from a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Scotland and Donegal Tweed. I am moving away from these yarns as my Truly Mendip range expands. Cushions are combined with reclaimed block-printed – and often naturally dyed cotton fabrics.

The Handloom Room as a whole also features Socially Crafted and Artisan Crafted collections. The former features fine craft made by makers with learning disabilities and/or mental health conditions from across the UK and Finland. The Artisan collection features handwoven scarves that have been directly sourced from an individual weaver in the rural region of Kutch, Gujarat in India. Each product at The Handloom Room has good, fully traceable provenance.
